-
- IDEfixPrefs is a preferences editor.
- The installation program will copy it to your SYS:Prefs directory.
-
- Items marked with (*) are only of importance, if IDEfix is started via the
- LoadIDE mechanism and has been made reset resident and the machine is
- rebooted.
-
-
- MENUS:
-
- PROJECT -> ABOUT
- Shows informations about IDEfixPrefs.
-
- PROJECT -> QUIT
- Leaves IDEfixPrefs.
-
- EDIT -> RESET TO DEFAULTS
- Restores default settings.
-
- EDIT -> LAST SAVED
- Restores last saved settings.
-
- EDIT -> RESTORE
- Restores currently active settings.
-
-
-
- SYSTEM PARAMETERS (*):
-
- Boot Graphics Mode -> Default (*)
- If you have a PAL Amiga, the Amiga will boot in PAL.
- If you have a NTSC Amiga, the Amiga will boot in NTSC.
-
- Boot Graphics Mode -> NTSC (*)
- The Amiga will boot in NTSC.
-
- Boot Graphics Mode -> PAL (*)
- The Amiga will boot in PAL.
-
- Disable Cache (*)
- Will disable all processor caches.
-
- No FastMem (*)
- Will disable all FastMem.
-
-
-
- CONTROLLER PARAMETERS:
-
- TIP:
- If you have a VOB Adapter, set 4-Drive Adapter -> VOB
- BEFORE you install any ATAPI device!!!
- If devices are invisible after a reset, increase BootDelay.
-
- Connector Type -> Auto Detect
- Will try to automatically detect if you have an A4000, or something else.
- Usually, you can leave this setting.
- Under rare circumstances, Auto Detection might not work or could cause the
- machine to hang. In this case you can skip auto detection and force IDEfix
- into one of the following operation modes:
-
- Connector Type -> A600/A1200/A500
- Internal IDE port of A600 & A1200, IDE port of A500 turbo boards.
-
- Connector Type -> A4000/A4000T
- A4000 and A4000T internal IDE ports.
-
- WARNING! Setting the wrong connectot type could lead to crashes or lock-ups!
-
-
- 4-Drive Adapter -> EB Standard
- Will try to automatically detect an "Elaborate Bytes Style" 4-drive adapter,
- if present.
- Any Adapter we know of are "Elaborate Bytes Style", only exception is the
- Speed-Up Adapter from VOB, which works differnt.
- Examples of "Elaborate Bytes Style" Adapters are the IDEfix '97 Adapter by
- Individual Computers, the AlfaQuattro from AlfaData, the GI-Quattro from
- Golden Image, EZ-IDE Adapter from Eyetech, the Winner Adapter from Vesalia,
- the 4-Drive Adapter from Micronik.
- Unfortunately the RandyROM from MLC, too (grr!).
- You can usually leave this setting, even if you don't have such
- an Adapter. If you have a VOB SpeedUp Adapter, you MUST set this to VOB!
-
- 4-Drive Adapter -> VOB
- You MUST use this setting for the VOB SpeedUp Adapter.
-
- 4-Drive Adapter -> NONE
- Disable 4-Drive support. You should take this choice, if you don't use a
- 4-drive adapter at all.
-
- Boot Delay (*):
- Sets a delay time before any IDE or ATAPI units are accessed on system
- startup in seconds. A delay can be very helpful, if drives are not properly
- recognised
-
- ATAPI Enabled (*):
- If not checked, the ATAPI driver inside IDEfix will be completely disabled.
- However, you can still use the disk based atapi.device, but booting from
- an ATAPI ZIP or LS-120 drive won't be possible.
-
-
-
- UNIT PARAMETERS:
-
- TIP:
-
- If you have a CD-ROM, set Unit Mount -> CD Mount
- If you have a ZIP or LS-120, set Unit Mount -> Floppy Mount
-
- Unit:
- Selects the particular unit.
-
- AtapiSpeed:
- Sets the speed of ATAPI bus transfers, where 0 is slowest and 3 is fastest.
- Default is currently identical to 3.
- If you have problems with CD-ROM drives (read-errors, crashes, etc.) you
- should reduce this value.
-
- Unit Type -> Auto Detect
- IDEfix will automatically detect, if this unit is an IDE or ATAPI unit.
-
- Unit Type -> ATAPI Unit
- Forces IDEfix to see this unit as an ATAPI unit.
-
- Unit Type -> IDE Unit
- Forces IDEfix to see this unit as an IDE unit.
-
- Unit Type -> Disabled
- Will completely disable this unit.
- It may speed up the boot process, if you disable all units numbers, where no
- device is physically connected.
- The unit will be completely disabled, if someone program tries to open this
- unit, it will fail.
-
-
- Unit Mount -> Disable Mount
- Will disable automatic mounting for this unit. Speeds up the boot process.
- The unit will be still accessible, if someone opens the device directly
- (e.g. CacheCDFS can still be mounted).
-
- Unit Mount -> HD Mount
- Will always try to mount this unit as a harddisk, even if it is something
- else. Yes, you CAN add an RDSK Block to a CD-ROM! If this option is set,
- IDEfix will try to mount the CD-ROM as a Harddisk.
- This setting can also be used to override the "Super-Floppy" mechanism of
- IDE-fix.
-
- Unit Mount -> Floppy Mount
- Will mount this unit as a "Super-Floppy" - regardless what it actually is.
-
- Unit Mount -> CD Mount
- Reserved for future enhancements. Currently equivalent to
- "Unit Mount->Disable Mount", the best setting for CD-Roms.
-
- Unit Mount -> Auto Detect
- Will try to do its best in mounting this unit on the following strategy:
- - If the unit is a CD-ROM or CD-Writer, it will try to mount it as a CD.
- However, as the CD Mount is not operational yet, nothing will happen.
- If you have a CD-Rom, it is suggested to set CD Mount or Disable Mount
- manually, as this speeds up things up a lot.
- - If the unit is a fixed disk, it will read the RDSK blocks and try to mount
- all partitions.
- - If the unit is removeable and has no or an unformatted medium inserted, it
- will be mounted as a "Super Floppy".
- If a medium is inserted which contains a valid RDSK Block, all partitions
- will be mounted regarding to the RDB.
